October 11, 1798 John Adams, the second President of the United States, addressed the Massachusetts Militia and said:

He rightly highlighted the reality that this great American experiment in self-government and liberty would only work where the popular societal ethos is derived from the character produced by the Holy Spirit’s indwelling.
