The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments today over a cross-shaped memorial in Maryland.
In 1925, The American Legion dedicated the Bladensburg World War I Veterans Memorial because mothers who lost their sons in from Prince George’s County, Maryland decided to erect this memorial to mimic the gravestones of their son’s burial sites in Europe.
Because of its cross shape, The American Humanist Association sued, saying it violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.
This case give the court, an opportunity to correct the course of Establishment Clause jurisprudence and deliver a resounding victory for religious liberty in America.
