>> Ed Battagliano: Each year, hundreds of children are sent to the Mime boarding school, never to be heard from again. That's, that's troubling. The Mime boarding school, oh, we got it. And, you know, just wasting away their days pulling on that invisible rope, those white gloves, trying to get out of that imaginary cube. It's just, it's heartbreaking.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, it is. Bert Harper is one of the professors today. Good bird.
>> Bert Harper: Good morning, Ed.
>> Ed Vitagliano: What do you, what do you think about that? Just, mime school could be tough. Yeah, speak up. Speak up, Bert.
>> Ed Battagliano: He has no reaction. He has nothing to say.

>> Ed Battagliano: Last Friday in May, and I think I heard. Is it first time callers?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes.
>> Ed Battagliano: For this morning. So if you've never gotten on the show before, not if you've tried to get on and haven't been able to get through, but if you've never been on the show, we want you to call this number and be our guest. Have some fun, and you might even win something. You might win a cap.
>> Ed Vitagliano: 888-589-8840. brother Burt, tell our listeners what the mystery question is.
>> Bert Harper: Oh, the mystery question is one of the questions that we'll have. And, if you answer that particular question, you'll hear this wonderful sound.
>> Ed Battagliano: Oh, the beloved cowbell.
>> Bert Harper: Oh, man. In Mississippi State for some people. It's not beloved though. Have you noticed? In Mississippi.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's right, that's right.
>> Bert Harper: You know, I don't know why they can't get on board. But anyway, yeah, the beloved cowbell.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Tim Wildmon, of course, is a big Mississippi State fan and one time on the show we did, we went through this routine and he says, ah. And I said, yeah, the pretty irritating cowbell. I almost lost my job that day.
>> Bert Harper: I just love this.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Joined the team, said it's, yeah, the beloved cowbell.
>> Bert Harper: If you answer that question, they'll get one of these caps. Right, guys?
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, that's right. If you land on the mystery question, it's going to be one of the original nine and you answer it correctly, you're going to get a nice AFR cap.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah, great.
>> Ed Vitagliano: If you want to buy one, you can go to resources.afa.net resources.afa.net that's our resource center. We sell those. I don't remember how much, they cost, but they're, I think they're in line with other, other caps.
>> Bert Harper: Okay.
>> Ed Vitagliano: You know, not, not the kind you get for, for $4 at a, you know, a Shell station. But you know, ball caps, if you get them at a, at a, a park, baseball park or something like that, they're.
>> Bert Harper: Well, they're sharp looking.
>> Ed Vitagliano: They are.
>> Bert Harper: The design was really good the way they did that. I'm impressed.
>> Ed Vitagliano: All right. Now the only other thing we would say that again, remind you this is first time callers only, is that you need to be 11 years old or older. So I think we've covered all the, all the basics here. Again, the number to call if you want to get on with us. First time callers only. 888-589-8840. So, brother Bert, we're going to let you go first. I'll go next. J.J. will bring up the, the rear and then we will Head to the phones.
Mandy Griffith: Three rocks that float when thrown into the water
>> Bert Harper: Okay, here's my three rocks. Sink to the bottom when thrown into the water, right?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Sure.
>> Bert Harper: But there's one rock that floats. What is the name of that rock?
>> Ed Battagliano: Oh, that's good.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, here's Mandy Griffith Show. I tried this. You've got. I, know I tried one time not to do it when I was on it.
>> Ed Vitagliano: People complain.
>> Bert Harper: I got more emails that week. Anytime I've ever been on, they said, no, that won't do.
My 10 year old daughter Teagan is getting turned on to Andy Griffith
So here it is. What did Barney buy for his parents on their wedding anniversary one year?
>> Ed Vitagliano: What did I know the answer to this.
>> Bert Harper: It's funny. Okay, what did Barney buy for his parents on their wedding anniversary one year?
>> Ed Vitagliano: And I think. I think Andy said to him, you're a fine son.
>> Bert Harper: You're a fine son, Barney.
>> Ed Battagliano: I mentioned this. My 10 year old daughter Teagan is. She's gotten turned on to Andy Griffith. She watched Little House on the Prairie for a couple of years. I think she watched the whole season two or three times in a row. Now she's doing that with Andy Griffith. I hear her. And they're just laughing. That is some timeless humor. When you can be our age. Yeah. 10 years old and get those jokes and it's good, clean humor and it's.
>> Ed Vitagliano: lovable characters and good life lessons. Yes. Oh, yeah, absolutely.
>> Ed Battagliano: Wisdom.
>> Bert Harper: So we recommend the end of Griffith.
>> Ed Vitagliano: We can, we can recommend it.
>> Bert Harper: Okay.
How did Paul escape Damascus when the Jews were trying to kill him
My Bible question. And, you know, you debate how hard, how, if you've played Bible trivia, and they'll say, what's the third guy mentioned in Numbers? Chapter six, you know.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah.
>> Bert Harper: Oh, man. But anyway, I think they'll get this one. How did Paul escape Damascus when the Jews were trying to kill him? How did Paul escape Damascus when the Jews were trying to kill him?
>> Ed Vitagliano: That's not too hard, but it does require that you've done some Bible study.
>> Bert Harper: It does. It's right.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Or paid attention when the preacher's preaching.
>> Bert Harper: This is Tim's, you know, he was instructing me on how to take his place. He said, don't make it too hard. Don't make it too easy. Just be in the middle of the road. I said, well, that's a yellow stripe.
The Newton Weekday Bible School started in 1914. It's been going consistent since 1925
>> Ed Battagliano: Hey, guys, we're talking about the Bible, how important it is. Tomorrow I'm going to be at Newton. It's Newton, Kansas, and it's the Newton Weekday Bible School. Way back in 19, 14. Well, it started in Gary, Indiana, in 1914. Then in 1924, a group of pastors in Newton got together and it's where you teach the Bible to public school kids during lunch, take them off campus with sack lunch and have a Bible study, mentor, disciple these kids. Then it really took off in 1925. It's been going consistent since 1925. They're having their hundredth year of celebration tomorrow evening at Lindley Hall. It's free. Everyone's invited. Not a banquet, not a fundraiser, a true celebration. Music, laughter. We're going to talk about the program and then refreshments afterwards. And that's in Lindley, Hall, in Newton, Kansas. Tomorrow evening. Then Sunday morning, I'll be speaking at Emanuel Baptist Church. Sunday night at Newton Bible Church. But back to how important the Bible is. You know, that's just remarkable that's lasted that long.
>> Ed Vitagliano: What an impact that Amen has had on a centuries worth of young people.
>> Ed Battagliano: And if you, you might want to consider and pray about bringing that to your area, reach out to the folks there in Newton and,
>> Bert Harper: Yeah, how to do it?
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, that's right.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah, let's do it.
Matthew 6:3 says three things can take away our money
>> Ed Vitagliano: All right, here are my three questions. First question, perhaps you've had a delicious pastrami sandwich in the past, but is pastrami made from beef or pork? Is pastrami made from beef or pork? A Bible question. In Matthew 6, Jesus said we should lay up treasure in heaven because three things can take away our money. And these are just, I'm sure, just examples being used by the Lord. But what are those three things that can take away our money that the examples that Jesus uses in Matthew 6? And then, a true false question. If you live in Arkansas, every state that borders yours can be entered by going south. Is that true or false? If you live in Arkansas, every state that borders yours can be entered by going south. True or false.
>> Ed Battagliano: That makes my compass hurt thinking about it. here's what I've got. First question from the Bible. Just like Brother Burke tried to get the middle of the road, not too easy, not too hard. What road was Saul traveling when he had his conversion experience? What road was Saul traveling when he had his conversion experience? Second question. A scratch test is usually performed when a doctor suspects the patient has what? A scratch test is usually performed when a doctor suspects the patient has what? Fill in the blank. Next question. True or false. Airline passengers landing in Turkey are getting fined for standing up too early before the seatbelt sign is turned off. Is that true or false? Airline passengers landing in Turkey, the country of Turkey, are getting fined for standing up too early before the seat belt sign is turned Off. True or false.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Wow. It sounds like something that would happen in a blue state. Over here. They find people for everything.
>> Bert Harper: right after 9 11, Jen and I were flying to Washington D.C. and they did come on 30 minutes before we landed at Reagan. They said, if you get up, now, you will not let you get off at Reagan Airport. That was during, you know, 9 11.
>> Ed Battagliano: Right? They were, oh, 9 11. Wow.
>> Bert Harper: And that did happen there. Now we. Nobody got up those last 30 minutes. They wanted to get off when they got there.
>> Ed Battagliano: I traveled a few times during COVID and the flight attendants, man, they, they just were. They just had a little Nazi flight attendant thing going on. They'd browbeat you if your mask just slipped a little bit below your nose. So I might. If you'll. I don't know if you've got a copy of the book of, of the Guinness Book World Records, I might be in there for the person that ate the cookie in the slowest amount.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Of time, because that was the only.
>> Ed Battagliano: Way that I, nibbled on that cookie for, For a three hour flight. That's right. If you're eating, you could do it, because it could. Covid was real particular about, you know, it wouldn't get on anybody at a tavern, it wouldn't go to an abortion place. And you know, it was real picky who, you know, but smart virus. Smart virus, yeah. You could have your mask off if you were eating and drinking, but.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Or if you were a Democrat, mayor or governor and went to a party.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Just amazing.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's right.
>> Ed Vitagliano: How the virus wouldn't, Anyway, that seems like a hundred years ago.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's right. Everybody's in line with their mask on at a restaurant then. And you sit right down three feet from where you and everybody's mask off. You're eating and laughing and. All right. Sorry. I got.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Thank you.
>> Bert Harper: It's like 100 years ago for the memories.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's right.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah.
>> Ed Vitagliano: All.
>> Ed Battagliano: Ah, right.
Brother Bert asks three questions about three things that can take away your money
>> Ed Vitagliano: Brother Bert, where do we go first?
>> Bert Harper: Brad from Georgia is left over from last week. Brad, have you been on the phone for a whole week? Well, I'm glad you called in. Hey, brother, you want to ask answer or both?
>> Ed Battagliano: might do both, please.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, which question you want to try first?
>> Caroline: I'm gonna try, brother Ed's question, about, the treasure in heaven. Matthew 6.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Okay. Ah, this is what it says, the question in Matthew 6. Jesus said we should lay up treasure in heaven because three things can take away our money. What were the three examples that Jesus used?
>> Ed Battagliano: Okay.
>> Caroline: that would be Matthew 6:19. It says, don't, lay up for yourself. Treasures in heaven. Treasures on earth were moth and rust destroy. And where thieves break in and still. So the answer is moths, rust and thieves.
>> Ed Vitagliano: That is actually done.
>> Ed Battagliano: Way to start us out, Brad. Right out of the chute getting the answer correct.
>> Bert Harper: I thought it was inflation. Yeah, I mean, I'm shocked.
>> Ed Vitagliano: That's a little more modern, but that's. That steals your money on earth.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's good.
Who was the shortest man in the Bible? Shoe height
Brad, what's your question for us?
>> Caroline: Okay, so I got. Can I ask a trick question?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Sure, yeah, sure.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah. JJ's here.
>> Caroline: Yeah, I know JJ like this. so this is a Bible, question. Who was the shortest man in the Bible. And for a bonus, who was the second. Who was the second shortest brother?
>> Ed Battagliano: Brother.
>> Bert Harper: I'm holding up my hand.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, he's got it.
>> Ed Battagliano: Go ahead.
>> Bert Harper: First of all, they thought it might be, you know, Zacchaeus, but.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Right.
>> Bert Harper: They went back and saw Nehemiah, but then they went to the book of Job and saw Bill.
>> Ed Battagliano: Shoe height. You got it right. Had them all.
>> Ed Vitagliano: I've never heard the Nehemiah one.
>> Bert Harper: Nehemiah, yeah. Nehemiah.
>> Ed Battagliano: yeah, Bill, dad, the shoe height. hey, Brad, thanks for listening to afr. Have a great weekend.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, thank you, Brad.

>> Caroline: I have, but not very often.
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, if you drive by there, put your hand over your heart, that's a great place. Hey, ask, answer or do both.
>> Caroline: Just answer.
>> Ed Battagliano: Which one you feel confident about?
>> Caroline: the gift Barney gave his anniversary.
>> Ed Battagliano: I can't wait to hear the answer.
>> Bert Harper: Well, Tim always asks this question. Is this repeated? No, this is a one time only show. And yes, yes, only one time. Here it is. What did Barney buy for his parents on their wedding anniversary one year?
>> Caroline: A septic tank.
>> Bert Harper: Your fine son, Barney.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Fine son. Barn.
>> Ed Battagliano: Did he wrap it up, put a bow on top?
>> Bert Harper: No, but he did bury it.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Oh, my word.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's too funny. so, Lisa, you apparently watch Andy Griffith or you did and you enjoyed as much as the rest of us.
>> Caroline: Always love to watch Andy. Yes.
>> Ed Battagliano: You know, when you have I Love Lucy and some of these other shows, laughter really is good medicine. I heard a quote years ago. You remember, when the about good clean comedy was the best. It still is.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: And so, hey, thank you for listening to afr. Have a wonderful weekend. where do we go next?
A scratch test is usually performed when a doctor suspects the patient has allergies
>> Bert Harper: Okay, let's go to Georgia and talk to Bo. Bo, thank you for calling.

>> Caroline: I'm from outside Albany. Down in southwest Georgia.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, sir. Kendrick Brother country. We love Alex and Steven.
>> Bert Harper: Now, say Albany. You know, here it's Albany in there. It's a little bit different.
>> Caroline: Yeah, a lot of folks call it a, Albany.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah, I went down there, and I was there, and they said. I say, man, it's good to be in Albany. And they said, no, you're not saying it right. So anyway. Hey, hey, Bo, do you want to answer? Ask her both.
>> Caroline: Let's do both.
>> Bert Harper: Okay. Which question you want to try to answer?
>> Caroline: I want to do the, ah. the one that JJ Put up for, the scratch test.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, sir. Here's the question. A scratch test is usually performed when a doctor suspects the patient has. What?
>> Caroline: We'll go with allergies.
>> Ed Battagliano: Allergies. Nice. Bo, you didn't. You've never heard that.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Well, I, Now that. Now that he mentioned allergies, I know that they do that. They do a little print pin prick, or they do a little scratch with some substance to see if the skin reacts. Right, right, right.
>> Ed Battagliano: The scratch.
>> Ed Vitagliano: But I could. Remember, I didn't know that.
>> Bert Harper: Do they do it when cat scratch? Is that all?
>> Ed Battagliano: Cat scratch fever. Yeah. They bring in a cat, give you a CAT scan and a habit scratch it just.
>> Bert Harper: Way to go, J.J. bo, what's your.
Question for us all: What is the most produced commodity in agriculture
>> Ed Battagliano: Question for us all?
>> Caroline: right. What is the most produced? it's kind of agriculture, because I'm in the agriculture, industry. But what is the most produced? pro. Well, not produce, but, commodity in Georgia.
>> Ed Battagliano: Now, guys, we got peaches and peanuts. Probably anything that starts with a P. But let's talk amongst among ourselves.
>> Bert Harper: A lot of pecans are raised.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's it.
>> Bert Harper: They call it pecans.
>> Ed Battagliano: Pecans.
>> Ed Vitagliano: They call it pecans in Georgia.
>> Bert Harper: They do pecans.
>> Ed Battagliano: you got, peaches, peanuts, and pecans. You want each one? Take one so we can cover our, agriculture.
>> Bert Harper: Since I mentioned pecans, I'll take pecans.
>> Ed Battagliano: What about you? I'll just say peaches, and I'll say peanuts. How do we do Bott?
>> Caroline: I'm afraid y' all all wrong.
>> Bert Harper: Is it watermelon?
>> Ed Battagliano: Else is It Cotton.
>> Caroline: Yep, that's cotton.
>> Ed Battagliano: Cotton used to be king.
>> Ed Vitagliano: I would have thought. Yeah, thought the other. The others. But, cotton's got to come from somewhere.
>> Ed Battagliano: Bo, I'm sure you know about Enterprise, Alabama, where cotton was king and the bow. Evil messed them up. And then they realized, okay, let's. We've got to do something different. A couple of those bad years, and they started planting peanuts. and they actually have a bug on a statue in Enterprise, Alabama. I wrote a little piece of that, a chapter in the book Jonah had a Whale of a Time because I was fascinated. It's the only statue in the world of a boll weevil, of a bug, of an insect, you know, honoring an insect. But the statue, of Liberty ladies holding up a boll weevil over his college in Arkansas.
>> Bert Harper: And their mascot is the boll weevil.
>> Ed Battagliano: Really?
>> Bert Harper: Which one it is? Yeah, would somebody call in Arkansas?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Arkansas, yeah.
>> Bert Harper: And, it's the boll weevils.
>> Ed Battagliano: Mississippi State, Mississippi Delta, they have a state. Interesting. What is it? Artichokes or no?
>> Bert Harper: Okra fighting. Okra?
>> Ed Battagliano: That sounds pretty vicious. Mad, you've got your work cut out.
>> Bert Harper: The scratch test on okra. They'd work together.
>> Ed Battagliano: There you go. Hey, Bo, you've heard about, Enterprise and that statue there, I bet, huh? Huh?
>> Caroline: Yes, sir.
>> Ed Battagliano: All right, have a good weekend. Thank you, Bo.
>> Bert Harper: Okay. Got time for another one?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, absolutely.
Every state that borders yours can be entered by going south, Mike says
>> Bert Harper: Okay, let's go to Tennessee. Mike, thank you for calling.
>> Caroline: Hey, I'm with you. Can you hear me?
>> Ed Vitagliano: You're right on him.
>> Bert Harper: We gotta ask first time callers, where you calling from in Tennessee?
>> Caroline: a little place called Quebec.
>> Bert Harper: Quebec.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Quebec.
>> Bert Harper: is that north Canada? I mean, you know.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah. What part of the state is that, Mike?
>> Caroline: It is the sort of southeast triangulated between, Knoxville, Nashville and Chattanooga. Little town with little town with no four way stops, no straight friends.
>> Bert Harper: Way to go.
>> Caroline: If you don't see the sign, you miss it.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Okay.
>> Bert Harper: Hey, I raised in a town like that. you had. No matter which way you left north, south, east and west. From where I was raised, you were headed toward town, no matter what. Hey, Mike, you want to answer or ask or both?
>> Caroline: Both, please.
>> Bert Harper: Which question you want to answer?
>> Caroline: I'm gonna guess at the Arkansas question.
>> Ed Vitagliano: All right, Mike, here's the question. If you live in Arkansas, every state that borders yours can be entered by going south. Is that true or false?
>> Caroline: May I ask a question before I answer it?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Sure.
>> Caroline: Is southwest or southeast considered south?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, sure.
>> Bert Harper: As long as south comes first.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah.
>> Caroline: Okay, then I'm going to answer.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes, it is true.
>> Ed Battagliano: No, absolutely.
>> Bert Harper: Missouri, Boot Hill.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes. There's that little, that little part of Missouri that dangles down around.
>> Bert Harper: That's right.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Arkansas, you can, from the northeast corner, you can jump into Missouri, and Arkansas kind of flares up out at the top and so you can go south into, Oklahoma as well.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: Wow. Yeah, that's a good trivia question.
>> Ed Vitagliano: It's an oddity of,
>> Bert Harper: Man, I had to look at that and I said, oh, the Boot Hill. Now I thought, you know, that is.
>> Ed Vitagliano: That is the way to go. How did you get that, Mike? Did you, do you have to, did you look it up or just kind of guess or what?
>> Caroline: No, I live in Tennessee.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Oh, okay.
>> Caroline: I've been through every one of those states and know them fairly well.
If you were traveling at the speed of light and you turned on headlights
>> Ed Battagliano: All right, good.
>> Bert Harper: Well, Mike, you got a question for us?
>> Caroline: I do. here's my question, hypothetically, because nobody's ever done this. If you were traveling in a vehicle at the speed of light and you turned on the headlights, would they work?
>> Ed Vitagliano: M. Okay, so I, I would guess. I, I, I get the headlights. Okay. I'm just gonna. Now these other guys might have a guess. Here's my guess, Mike, is the headlights would come on, but they would not project a beam. That'd be my guess. Here's what do you guys think?
>> Bert Harper: Here's my thought. If you turn them on before you start going that fast, they would always be out in front of you.
>> Bert Harper: If you turn them, I think that's right. And then you start that speed, they would always be out in front of you and, but your tail lights might catch you.
>> Ed Battagliano: Here's a deal, Mike. after you tell us the answer to this, I want you to be thinking about how a cat always lands feet, first and, bread always lands buttered side down. I want what wondered what would happen if you strapped a piece of buttered bread to a cat's back.
>> Ed Vitagliano: And dropped it off somewhere?
>> Bert Harper: Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: Hey, Mike, what's the answer?
>> Caroline: if you define headlights working and you're currently traveling at the speed of light, I think it was Ed that said, no, they don't work.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, there'd be. No, you couldn't project a beam ahead of light ahead of according to when.
>> Bert Harper: You turn the lights on.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, that's a good science question, man.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah, you guys, that's, that's really good.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: Hey, Mike, have a great weekend. Thanks for listening to afr.

All right, let's go ahead and reset our questions. Brother Bert, you start us off. I'll go then JJ and we'll go back to the phones.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, here's the first one. Rocks sink to the bottom when thrown into the water. That's right. But there's one rock that floats. What is it? And then my Bible question. How did Paul escape Damascus when the Jews were trying to kill him? It was kind of unusual. I'll just put it that way. Okay. And one Andrew, Griffith show question was answered. Here's the other one. And it's not a trick question. What is the day after tomorrow called? Now, it's not Sunday, by the way. It's got a name. What is the day after tomorrow called? What's its name?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Wow.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's interesting.
Brie has one original question remaining, and I'll answer it
>> Ed Vitagliano: All right, here, I've. I've got one original question remaining, and I'll. So I'll add a couple, because we still have 50 minutes to go. Here's my. One of my. My last remaining question. Perhaps you've had a delicious pastrami sandwich, but is pastrami made from beef or pork? All right, second question. Where is the sea route called Drake's Passage? So, just the general idea, the general, geographical location. If you are sailing along Drake's Passage, where are you? And then third question. Your cell phone has a SIM card. A SIM card. What does the acronym SIM stand for? What does the acronym SIM stand for when you're talking about a SIM card?
>> Ed Battagliano: Good questions. Here's what I've got. First question from the Bible. What road was Saul traveling when he had his conversion experience? What road was Saul traveling when he had his conversion experience? There, in the Book of Acts, we read about that. Second question. True or false. Airline passengers landing in Turkey are getting fined for standing up too early before the seatbelt sign is turned off. Is that true or false? And then I'll add one. Which famous author's pen name means two fathoms deep? Which famous author's pen name means two fathoms Deep.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Wow.
>> Bert Harper: Good question.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Great question.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, we ready?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes.
>> Bert Harper: Okay. Let's go to Alabama. Bree. Thank you for calling.
>> Caroline: Good morning.
>> Bert Harper: I want to answer the Mark Twain question.
>> Ed Battagliano: Oh, hey, that's a good way to go, Brie.
>> Bert Harper: Hey.
>> Ed Battagliano: That is a confident way. A confident way to say it. I think I know this one. Here's the question, and we'll do this again. Again, Bri, Let me get this horse, in front of the cart. which famous author's pen name means two fathoms deep?
>> Bert Harper: Mark Twain.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Mark Twain.
>> Bert Harper: Samuel Clements.
>> Ed Battagliano: Samuel Clements. Samuel Langhorne Clements. And a love that steak place is named after his middle name there. Go, out. Me and old lady go out to Langhorn.
>> Ed Vitagliano: You a dog, lady.
>> Ed Battagliano: Oh, wow. And get a steak salad. And they do it upright. Samuel Langhorne Clemens. Mark, Twain. He was a riverboat pilot. And when you'd go out there and you would test the water, throw a rope that had knots in it to see if it was deep enough for safe passage. What you're looking for was 12ft deep, which is two fathoms. And then they would say, like, you know, where are we? And they'd yell out mark Twain. And it meant that it was, They were marking that it was two fathoms deep.
>> Ed Vitagliano: That I have never heard that he.
>> Ed Battagliano: Heard them yelling that. Yelling that. He probably did it when he first started as an apprentice, you know, Mark. You know, then like, whatever else it would be. But then when they. What they wanted to hear was Mark Twain. Okay, now you're good to go. The water's 12ft deep. We can get through with this paddle boat.
>> Ed Vitagliano: And so he. He took that as his.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's what he took. Yeah. That's not his real name. Mark Twain with Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer. His real name is, of course, Samuel Langhorne.
>> Ed Vitagliano: So a fathom is six feet.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Okay.
>> Bert Harper: Twain. See two feet.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, but what a. What a fun name tied to. He was. He tried silver mining in Nevada.
Brie, where are you from in Alabama? Where did you move
He was a riverboat pilot. He did a very interesting life.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Brie. How did you know that? Did you look that. Look that up, or is that just one of those odd pieces of knowledge that was rattling around in the back somewhere or what?
>> Bert Harper: Yes. I've always been a fan of literature and trivia, and that is one from my high school literature teacher.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah, good. Way to. Way to pay attention there. Those two just came together. That was a good marriage in your mind there.
>> Bert Harper: Hey, Bri, we didn't ask you where you're from in Alabama. Where are you? Outside Huntsville and Madison. Okay. Great area.
>> Ed Battagliano: Great area. Right there.
>> Bert Harper: Beautiful. Hey, you got your question for us?
>> Caroline: I did not.
>> Bert Harper: I finally got your phone number and then just kind of thought I should go one. Way to go.
>> Ed Battagliano: Hey, Brie. Last year I had a privilege to speak in Scottsboro, just up from you over there. Beautiful area. I loved all the lakes and just everything. Just a wonderful place to live there. For you.
>> Bert Harper: Scottsboro is where the mountains make the lakes.
>> Ed Battagliano: Is that what they.
>> Bert Harper: That's what they say, yeah. Beautiful place.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah.
>> Bert Harper: Wonderful.
>> Ed Battagliano: You know where that is, right, Brie?
>> Bert Harper: I've seen it on the map. We just got here a couple years ago.
>> Ed Battagliano: Okay.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Where did you move from?
>> Bert Harper: Ah, Leavenworth, Kansas.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Okay.
>> Bert Harper: Oh, from flat land to the hills. Okay.
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, thank you so much for listening. We're glad you got our number and glad you were able to get through. Have a wonderful weekend. God bless you, Bree.
How many stalls did King Solomon have? How many horses
>> Bert Harper: Okay, let's go to Texas and talk to Brenda. Brenda, thank you for calling.
>> Caroline: Thank you.
>> Bert Harper: Yes, where are you in Texas?
>> Caroline: I am, actually. I'm on the road headed, I'm from Hockley, Texas, but I am traveling to, Munster, Texas, hauling a horse.
>> Ed Battagliano: Howdy, Brenda. hey, if you can take us off of Bluetooth. It's really hard for us to hear you, and we'll give you just a second if you don't mind taking us off of Bluetooth.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Be a little more.
>> Caroline: I'm sorry. Is that better?
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, much better.
>> Bert Harper: Thank you. Brendan. Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: Ask ants or do both?
>> Caroline: I'm gonna try and do both.
>> Ed Battagliano: Hey, did you say you're hauling a horse?
>> Ed Vitagliano: I am.
>> Ed Battagliano: What kind of. What kind of horse? Quarter horse. Are you going to? roping header heeler. You going to run barrels? What's it looking like? Going to rodeo?
>> Caroline: He is a barrel horse and she's a quarter horse. So I have a friend that has, I have a horse in training with her, and I'm taking this one up there, and that's what I'm doing.
>> Ed Battagliano: Wonderful.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Great.
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, what's your. What question do you want to answer?
>> Caroline: Okay. Since I guess in the horse vein, so I've been reading in my chronological Bible, in second Chronicles and Kings and talking about Solomon, how many horses? And there's a variation of answers, but, how many horses did King Solomon have? How many. How many stalls? Let's just say that. How many stalls did King Solomon have?
>> Ed Battagliano: See, I just read that a. Ah, couple of, you know, weeks back or whatever, and it seemed like it was 4,000 or 9,000 even. Even had different cities, different outposts built to handle all of the.
>> Ed Vitagliano: All the horses, man. I don't know.
>> Ed Battagliano: it seems like. Because it's like this many chariots, this many horses.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: it's probably 9,000, but I'm gonna say 4,000.
>> Bert Harper: Okay. Hey, Brenda, you're gonna have to help us out on that number. What is.
>> Ed Vitagliano: I'm gonna go with JJ on the 4000.
>> Bert Harper: Hey, I'll up him and I'll say 10. Go ahead.
>> Caroline: Now. You're correct. 4000.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Wow. Nice.
>> Bert Harper: Way to go.
>> Caroline: Some even say 40,000, but, 4000 stalls or stables. But you're right. And he, imported some of the horses from Egypt. And I mean, it was just blew my mind to read that like you said, you know, there were different areas, but. Yeah, but that was really cool.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah, that really is. And for a horse person, you just notice those things. Well, well, thank you so much for, Now, let's see.
>> Ed Vitagliano: She did. She answered.
>> Bert Harper: You want to answer one of my questions?
>> Ed Battagliano: One of ours?
>> Caroline: I'm gonna try and answer one of Brother Birds. And I think it's the, the rock that doesn't sink. And that's going to be a pumice, pumice stone.
>> Ed Battagliano: Nice.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Hey.
>> Ed Battagliano: Wow.
>> Bert Harper: That's it.
>> Ed Battagliano: You know what that cowbell means?
>> Bert Harper: Are you. Oh, man. Did we, did we lose Brenda?
>> Ed Battagliano: Okay, I think we did.
>> Bert Harper: She's. We'll try to get it back.
>> Ed Battagliano: Brenda, if you'll call, call right back. And if you. If you're not able to call back, go to commentsfr.net say, this is Brenda.
>> Bert Harper: She's on.
>> Ed Vitagliano: I want.
>> Bert Harper: Let me go to her. let me.
You answered the mystery question. All right. Thank you. It was all right. And, and Brenda seemed like a sweet person
Okay, Brenda zone. Hey, Brenda, are you there now?
>> Caroline: I am. Yes, sir.
>> Bert Harper: You answered the mystery question. Do you know what that means? You get.
>> Caroline: No, I don't.
>> Bert Harper: You get. I wish that we could send you a 10 gallon hat with your horse, but we're just gonna do it with the cap. AFR cap. And, Yeah, yeah. So you've got to hang on so we can get your mailing address and, you can wear this riding a horse, I think.
>> Ed Battagliano: Oh, sure. Great looking ball caps.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Nice looking.
>> Caroline: Absolutely.
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, have a great week.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, I'm gonna put you on hold, Brenda, and then Cindy Roberts will come on and get your information and we'll get this in the mail to you. All right. Thank you.
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, that.
>> Ed Vitagliano: I'm glad we didn't lose her.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's fun. Wake up on a Friday morning, you're already excited. It's been A four day week for a lot of people because they're off Monday. Then you don't think you're going to win something and you're like, hey, I called in the fun radio show Learning University. I want a ball cap.
>> Ed Vitagliano: That's right.
>> Ed Battagliano: And, and Brenda seemed like a sweet person.
>> Bert Harper: Yeah. she was transporting a horse, not a cow though, so.
>> Ed Battagliano: That's right.
>> Bert Harper: It was all right.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes.
>> Bert Harper: All right. Either way. Okay.
>> Ed Vitagliano: It was still good to hear.
>> Bert Harper: Good to hear. Yes.
Parker calls from Valdosta, Georgia
Hey, let's go to Georgia. And it's Parker. Parker. Thank you for calling.
>> Caroline: Yes, sir. Howdy.
>> Bert Harper: Howdy. What part of Georgia, man?
>> Caroline: Valdosta.
>> Bert Harper: Oh yeah, down in the south part. Great, great area. Well. Oh yeah, yeah. Do you want to answer, ask or both?

What road was Saul traveling when he had his conversion experience
Which question you want to try to answer?
>> Caroline: I'd like to answer the name of the road that Saul was converted on.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yes, sir. Here's the question. What road was Saul traveling when he had his conversion experience?
>> Caroline: I got to say that that is Saul's Damascus road conversion.
>> Ed Battagliano: Nicely done. And a lot of people that may or may not know, if you hear somebody who gets radically saved, they just have a, just a real complete life change. They're going one direction and they do a 180 after they've, asked God to forgive them of their sins and receive Jesus Christ into their heart and life by faith. And you just see their language, change their habits, change their attitude, everything so radical. They say, well, he had a road to Damascus experience. You know, where Jesus knocked Saul off his horse, that bright light. And so that's a, if you're not reading your Bible, it's not boring, it's fun, it's exciting. Drama, intrigue, wisdom, poetry, you'll be blessed, you'll be inspired. And so that's just one of the many wonderful stories that's in the book of Acts.
>> Bert Harper: I just got to tie this in. Now. He was going to Damascus probably to kill or imprison.
>> Ed Battagliano: Had papers and later on, according to.
>> Bert Harper: My question, he would be in Damascus and they would try to kill him.
>> Ed Battagliano: Isn't that something interesting?
>> Bert Harper: Isn't that something?
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah. Elon Musk knows just what he's going through.
Parker: Have you ever Bought your parents a septic tank
>> Bert Harper: Okay. Hey, Parker, you have a question for us?
>> Caroline: Yeah, I do have a question for you. So. So somebody originally answered my Andy Griffith question. And I'm, a pretty big Andy Griffith fan.
>> Bert Harper: Hey, welcome to the club, man. Welcome to the club.
>> Ed Battagliano: Have you ever Bought your parents a septic tank for their anniversary or birthday or Christmas or anything?
>> Caroline: No, I don't. But if anybody knows how expensive those are, they're right.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Putting it in, too.
>> Caroline: Oh, yeah.
Parker: What was the reason that Barney arrested Mayor Pike
Okay, here's my question. And the Andy Griffith episode, Andy Saves Barney's Morale. He arrested everyone in town. What was the reason? There's actually two of them. What was the reason that Barney arrested Mayor Pike?
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, first of all, when you say that he saved his morale. That could be. I'm always amazed. I want him to just, say, barney, are you out of your love and mind? And he just takes him aside just, like, doesn't even. He doesn't even. Let him realize it was all his fault that everything got all unraveled and just tries to. Tries to, you know, be real, real, kind and compassionate with Barney. you guys know the story, right?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Well, he arrested the two guys playing ch. Checkers for being too loud or something.
>> Ed Battagliano: Too loud? Playing B.
>> Bert Harper: Was jaywalking, if I remember. I think.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes.
>> Bert Harper: Ain't be.
>> Ed Vitagliano: You know, Pike. What. What was the thing?
>> Bert Harper: Was it loaded? Was he.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Lloyd.
>> Bert Harper: I'm gonna say loitering. I don't know if that's right.
>> Ed Battagliano: Everybody in town was full because,
>> Ed Vitagliano: Because Andy had gone out of town and entrusted him, didn't he? Yeah, man Trusted him to. To be sheriff for a day. And Barney, you know, he was. Let's just say he was enthusiastic that day. Everybody in town. Andy drives up after being. He went somewhere and. And Mount Pilot, Raleigh.
>> Bert Harper: Had to go to Raleigh a lot because of the capital.
>> Ed Vitagliano: And so, he. He says, barney, when he was. Wow, everything looks quiet. Yep. And they walk in and the jails are stuffed full with people. And, in Mayberry.
>> Bert Harper: Hey, Parker, what is the answer?
>> Caroline: So y' all actually got the answer partially correct. That was. He gave him two citations. He gave him a citation for vagrancy and loitering.
>> Bert Harper: Mayor pike.
>> Ed Battagliano: thank you for listening to afr. Have a great weekend there in Georgia.
>> Bert Harper: Oh, man.
What is the day after tomorrow called? And I'm not talking about Sunday
>> Ed Vitagliano: Hey, guys, let's reset our questions. We've got, about six minutes before we hit the top of the. Our break, but, go ahead.
>> Bert Harper: Okay. My Bible question is still hanging out there, and it was connected with Alec. Alex, that's exploring the word. This is morning, not after.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yes, that's right. Gotta get that straight.
>> Bert Harper: How did Paul escape Damascus when the Jews were trying to kill him? And I'll add one more. No, this is the one I did add. What is the day after tomorrow called? What is the day after tomorrow called? And I'm not talking about Sunday. It's not a trick question.
>> Ed Vitagliano: No, it's not. And I think we've had this before, and I didn't know, know that. That there. There is a word kind of like.
>> Ed Battagliano: I'm thinking like some of these, like Dickens, and some of this old writing where you'll hear them say something and you say, oh, that means the day after tomorrow.
>> Bert Harper: Heretofore, I'll use that.
>> Ed Battagliano: Hey, I like that.
Your cell phone has a SIM card. What does the acronym SIM stand for
>> Ed Vitagliano: All right, here are my three questions that I have remaining. first question, perhaps you've had a delicious pastrami sandwich before, but is pastrami made from beef or pork? Second question. Where is the sea route called Drake's Passage? If you're sailing along Drake's Passage, where are you? on the planet? And then final, question. Your cell phone has a SIM card. What does the acronym SIM stand for? If you get a new phone, they have to switch over. The SIM card has your information, photos, that kind of thing. What does the acronym SIM stand for?
>> Ed Battagliano: Here's what I've got. First question, true or false? Airline passengers landing in Turkey are getting fined for standing up too early before the seatbelt sign is turned off. Is that true or false? Then I'll add two more. Second question. Which US State was named after the king of France? Which US State was named after the king of France? Third question. Who created the Dilbert comics? You guys remember the comic strip Dilbert? There are a lot of office things that go on in the office. Who. Who is the writer who created the Dilbert comics?
Your cell phone has a SIM card. What does the acronym SIM stand for
>> Bert Harper: Okay, let's go to Mississippi. And it's Carson. Carson. Thank you for calling.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Oh, hello.
>> Bert Harper: Hello. What part of Mississippi you live in, Carson?
>> Ed Vitagliano: I'm just down the road from y' all.
>> Ed Battagliano: I'm in Sardis right now.
>> Bert Harper: Okay.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah, good area. Nice lake.
>> Bert Harper: Are you at the lake fishing or swimming?
>> Ed Battagliano: just at the house.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, great. Hey, do, you want to ask Answer or both? Carson.
>> Ed Battagliano: answer.
>> Bert Harper: Okay, which question you want to answer?
>> Ed Vitagliano: I want to answer the SIM question. All right, here's the question, Carson. ah. Your cell phone has a SIM card. What does the acronym SIM stand for?
>> Caroline: I believe it stands for Subscriber Identity Module.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Subscriber Identification Module. You're close. Wow, I'm really impressed with you there, Carson. How is that? Just. You're just a young guy and you know these things, or did you look it up or what? No, originally I was going to answer.
>> Caroline: The Paul Saul question for the Damascus.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Road, but then someone else did it so. And I already looked it up just.
>> Ed Battagliano: In case for the sim question.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah. So.
>> Ed Battagliano: Well, that research is good.
>> Bert Harper: He is ready.
>> Ed Battagliano: You're on top of things. Hey, good. Thank you for reading your Bible, Carson. That's really gonna. Lord's, gonna really.
>> Bert Harper: And he does it on his cell phone, I bet you.
>> Ed Battagliano: Carson, what's your question for us?
>> Caroline: I don't have one.
>> Ed Battagliano: Okay, well, have a great weekend, buddy.
>> Ed Vitagliano: There by the lake.
>> Bert Harper: You bet.
>> Ed Vitagliano: All kinds of stuff.
>> Ed Battagliano: I got a Sardis lake little insert. And Jonah had a whale of a time. We. I was a water skiing fanatic, but didn't have a boat at the time. This guy said, hey, my buddy said we could use his boat. And he said, here's the storage built in, and the seats are right by the storage building, blah, blah, blah. We kind of miss that seats little thing we get there. He said, it doesn't look like much, but you can have fun. Everybody's college age. We go, here's this boat with no seats in it. And they had these aluminum old style, lawn chairs with the web. You remember the web?
>> Ed Vitagliano: Yeah, yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: So we get in there, we put those in there, and everybody, the first person's ready to ski. And you're sitting in these aluminum chairs with these web and the guy. You ready? You ready? Yeah. Hit it. Well, we floor the boat, the bow comes up, everybody's chair collapses and slides. We're in a crack corner. Boat's just going all willy nilly across Sardis lake. We're all in the corner.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Even the guy driving it.
>> Ed Battagliano: Yeah, yeah. Nobody's driving it. The boat's just going on its own because we're, we've slid, you know, it's got pitches pretty high. And we're in little. We're in crazy little lightweight aluminum. So then. And it's pinched the, back of your leg.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Oh, yeah.
>> Ed Battagliano: So then we say, okay, you tell your brain, you know, now I gotta remember this isn't bolted down. And it kept happening over and over because you just think if you're gonna sit, sit down in a chair, it's going to be steady. and you're the excitement of looking out there. Have you got your life belt, on your everything. So, yeah, that was a fun little Sardis Lake story.
>> Ed Vitagliano: Oh, man.
