The 14th Amendment to our U.S. Constitution, Section 1, says,
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, ANDthe jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside (emphasis added).
The two requirements for citizenship are stated clearly as (1) having been born or naturalized in the U.S. (2) while being subject to our national jurisdiction.

So… what is an American citizen?
